About Manuka

About Manuka

Manuka honey is a monofloral honey produced from the nectar of the manuka tree, Leptospermum scoparium, which is native to New Zealand. Manuka Honey is made by bees that pollinate the Manuka flower, which blooms just 2-6 weeks per year. Manuka Honey is renowned for its individual flavour and recognised worldwide for its unique properties not found in other honey varieties.

Tested & certified

Tested & certified

Every batch of our Manuka Honey is tested and certified for guaranteed quality and methylglyoxal content. Methylglyoxal (MG) is the major antibacterial component in manuka honey. MG is a compound found in most types of honey, but usually only in small quantities.

In manuka honey, MG comes from the conversion of another compound, dihydroxyacetone, that is found in high concentration in the nectar of manuka flowers.

Health benefits

The higher the concentration of MG, the stronger the antibiotic effect. Manuka Honey is antibacterial and bacterial resistant. This means that bacteria shouldn’t be able to build up a tolerance to its antibacterial effects.

Manuka honey is said to be effective for treating everything from a sore throat to clearing up blemishes on your skin.

Other benefits of manuka honey include:

  • helping heal cuts and scrapes
  • clearing infections
  • easing stomach aches
  • improving digestion
  • boosting the immune system
  • providing energy
